About Us
Founder and facilitator Kerri Mauer is a graduate of the National Writing Project and former Teacher Consultant for the NWP. As a high school English Language Arts teacher, Kerri used journaling to help her students develop fluency and learn to process their lives. She now facilitates journaling groups in her hometown and Redmond and enjoys creating a safe and inclusive space for community through journaling three days a week.
REDMOND: Wayfarer Club at the SCP Hotel
The Wayfarer Club in the SCP Redmond Hotel is a welcoming and intimate space.
Grab a cup of coffee or a specialty tea and a pastry at the cafe and set aside some restorative time to write and connect.
BEND: Dudley's Bookshop Cafe
Join us at "Bend's coziest independent bookstore" to journal upstairs. Enjoy a locally roasted coffee or espresso (Bonsai Beans) or a tea from Metolius Teas or Jasmine Pearl Tea Company with a pastry. Gluten-free options available.
Our Process:
1) First 10 minutes: We start each meeting with a welcome to new members, time for everyone to get a coffee or tea and find a seat.
2) Next 30 minutes: A journaling prompt--always optional-- is provided. Writers enjoy some solitude with their thoughts, writing as much or as little as they choose, on the topic offered or about anything they want to write about.
3) Final 45 minutes: Finally, we come together as a group and people who choose to share out. Sharing is always optional, and looks different to each person--some read their entry in full, others share a line that stands out, some provide a short summary, and others just enjoy listening and offering comments of support. And you do not ever need to share aloud. (Additionally, this is not a writing workshop. Feedback is more about connection.) Our meetings run one hour in length, but some people stay longer to share and connect. You may leave between speakers as needed.
Note:
You do not need to see yourself as a writer or already keep a journal to join. Get yourself a notebook and a pen and stop by to give it a try. Members use their pages to celebrate life, process difficult times, reflect on their growth, set goals and manifest dreams. Additionally, this is a safe space for everyone to be vulnerable and find community support.
